21/08/2006 - Gross domestic product (GDP) in the OECD area rose by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2006, down from 1.0% in the previous quarter, according to preliminary estimates.
In the United States GDP grew by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2006, considerably less than the 1.4% growth recorded in the previous quarter. Japan's GDP rose by 0.2%, down from 0.7% in the previous quarter. GDP in the euro area rose by 0.9%, the highest growth rate observed since the second quarter of 2000.
